We analyzed over 15,000 FIDE chess players to uncover what drives rating differences. Male players rate higher than female players on average, title categories show massive skill divides, and a handful of countries dominate elite chess. The data also reveals a striking generational shift: the typical player today was born in 1998, marking a dramatic influx of young talent into competitive chess.
