Games available on more platforms consistently score higher across all three metrics. The data shows a clear positive trend: as platform count increases from 1 to ~13, popularity scores rise from ~21 to ~38, library counts grow dramatically from ~321 to ~3,044, and user ratings climb from ~3.19 to ~3.93. Two bar charts and a scatter plot were generated to visualize these relationships.
The dual-axis chart shows how game releases and average Metacritic scores have evolved over the decades. Game releases grew steadily from the 1980s, surged significantly from the 2000s onward, and peaked in 2016 with 1,595 games released in a single year. Meanwhile, average Metacritic scores have trended downward over time — the highest average score was recorded in 2000 at 80.77, compared to 71.11 in 2024. This inverse relationship suggests that as the market expanded and more games entered (including lower-quality titles), the overall average quality rating declined.
The analysis reveals which genres and themes perform best in both user ratings and engagement. Two interactive visualizations were generated: a scatter plot comparing top genres by rating vs. engagement, and a horizontal bar chart showing top themes by user rating colored by engagement level. Platformer is the top-performing genre with an average user rating of 3.605 and an engagement score of 7.167. Multiple data tables were also produced breaking down genre and theme statistics in detail.
The analysis successfully produced two bar charts and supporting data tables showing which genres and themes have the highest beaten-to-dropped ratios. A higher ratio means players are more likely to finish a game in that category than abandon it. The first chart ranks the top genres by this completion ratio, and the second chart does the same for themes — both using color gradients to make the top performers easy to spot.
Two interactive bar charts were generated showing the top 10 publishers and top 10 developers ranked by a combined score that blends user ratings and popularity. Each bar is color-coded by average user rating, and you can hover over bars to see game count, Metacritic score, and popularity details. Only publishers and developers with at least 5 games were included to ensure meaningful comparisons.
The analysis reveals clear patterns between ESRB ratings and game metrics. Two charts and supporting data tables were generated showing how playtime, popularity, and user ratings vary across ESRB categories. Mature (M) rated games dominate in both popularity and user ratings, while Everyone (E) rated games surprisingly lead in average playtime at 6.61 hours. Across all ESRB groups, there are strong positive correlations between the three metrics.
The analysis successfully produced a grouped bar chart and data table breaking down average playtime hours by rating tier and game mode. Each bar represents the mean playtime for a specific combination, annotated with the number of games (n) and the median playtime to account for any skew in the data. Only groups with at least 10 games are included, ensuring statistical reliability.
The correlation matrix heatmap and summary tables have been generated for all 10 key numeric columns: user rating, metacritic, ratings count, reviews count, library count, avg playtime hours, achievements count, platform count, popularity score, and engagement score. The heatmap visually displays pairwise correlation coefficients using a Red-Blue color scale, where deep blue indicates strong positive correlations and deep red indicates strong negative correlations. A separate summary table highlights the top 5 strongest positive and top 5 strongest negative correlations across all variable pairs.
The analysis successfully produced a multi-line chart with a bar overlay showing how user ratings, Metacritic scores, and popularity have evolved across the 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. The interactive chart displays all three metrics side by side, with game counts shown as gray bars in the background for sample size context.
The analysis successfully identified controversial games where critic and user opinions diverge significantly. A scatter plot shows the top 15 most controversial games based on the largest absolute difference between their normalized user rating and normalized Metacritic score, with each game annotated by title and colored by rating tier. Additionally, 5 games were found carrying a 'universal acclaim' Metacritic label yet scoring below the average user rating — a clear critic-vs-audience disconnect.
The sentiment analysis of the 'description clean' column reveals that the text is predominantly positive or neutral. Nearly half of all entries (48.2%) carry a positive tone, while 46.5% are neutral. Only a small fraction (5.3%) express negative sentiment. The average polarity score of 0.093 confirms a slightly positive overall tone. A bar chart visualizing the sentiment distribution has been generated.
A word cloud has been successfully generated from the 'description clean' column of your dataset. The visualization displays the most frequently occurring words, with larger text indicating higher frequency terms.
